BSAA Alumni Courtyard at BHS - Become part of Brighton schools history!
We're working with BHS students and staff to beautify an enclosed courtyard at BHS, and you can be a part of it. Alumni and their friends, families, teachers and colleagues may purchase bricks that are central to the design of the courtyard. Here's how it looks now, with six purchased benches and many purchased bricks and pavers in place.
The courtyard in early September 2010.

The BSAA Courtyard is in an area formed by additions to the high school. BSAA is offering the opportunity to purchase a brick in the “Baron’s Walk.” Bricks may be personalized to recognize a graduating student, students of all ages, families, educators, staff, friends or reunion classes. No commercial sponsors will be accepted. Six benches that are part of the final design already have been purchased; if you are interested in purchasing additional benches, the BSAA will look into the possibility of placing them elsewhere around the BHS campus.
The bricks are fired clay pavers, 8" by 8", and will be laser-etched with the name and class of the purchaser, or other names you wish to memorialize. Specify up to three lines of copy, and a maximum of 14 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation. (If ordering more than one brick, please fill out a separate box for each one.)
Brick(s) are $100 each.
To order, download the order form by clicking here for a Word version or here for a PDF.

BHS alum's painting of 12 Corners
in the '50s available in 3 print sizes

"12 Corners in the mid-'50s" by Jim Christy (BHS '57);
the artist with his painting (center).
Details—the poster includes these nostalgic elements, some of which remain today:
Neisner's in the 12 Corners Shopping Center, 12 Middle School, the Chateau, Brighton High School in the 1950s.
This delightful painting of Brighton's 12 Corners in the mid-1950s, by Jim Christy (BHS '57), was featured at the 2008 Brighton Arts Festival at the Town Hall, is now on permanent display at the Town Hall, and is available for purchase as three different sizes of prints to benefit the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA).
Christy did the painting for his 50th class reunion, and is having a great time making it a permanent part of local lore. It depicts a number of lost landmarks, such as Howard Johnson's, Neisner's, the Belmar, Don & Bob's and the Chateau. "This painting captures a special moment in time for Brighton residents and alumni," he said. "I think they will enjoy reconnecting with their pasts when they see the painting."
Each print is signed by the artist and accompanied by a detailed legend identifying the buildings and most of the cars in the painting.
Payment must be made by check. Because the BSAA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, a portion of each purchase is tax-deductible.
The prints are 16x13 with border, $30; 23x19 with border, $40; and 30x24 with border, $50, plus $5 per order for shipping and handling. To order a print, click here for an order form or just send payment by check to the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA) c/o Jim Christy, 127 Commodore Parkway, Rochester, NY 14625. You also may order by e-mail by clicking here.
