The BSAA initiatives has a number of exciting projects in hand and has completed several others in recent years.

  • BSAA Alumni Courtyard at BHS - Become part of Brighton schools history!
We're working with BHS students and staff to beautify an enclosed courtyard at BHS, and you can be a part of it. Alumni and their friends, families, teachers and colleagues may purchase bricks that are central to the design of the courtyard. Here's how it looks now, with six purchased benches and many purchased bricks and pavers in place.

The courtyard in early September 2010.

  • The BSAA Courtyard is in an area formed by additions to the high school. BSAA is offering the opportunity to purchase a brick in the “Baron’s Walk.” Bricks may be personalized to recognize a graduating student, students of all ages, families, educators, staff, friends or reunion classes. No commercial sponsors will be accepted. Six benches that are part of the final design already have been purchased; if you are interested in purchasing additional benches, the BSAA will look into the possibility of placing them elsewhere around the BHS campus.

The bricks are fired clay pavers, 8" by 8", and will be laser-etched with the name and class of the purchaser, or other names you wish to memorialize. Specify up to three lines of copy, and a maximum of 14 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation. (If ordering more than one brick, please fill out a separate box for each one.)

    Brick(s) are $100 each.

To order, download the order form by clicking here for a Word version or here for a PDF.

  • BHS alum's painting of 12 Corners
in the '50s available in 3 print sizes

    "12 Corners in the mid-'50s" by Jim Christy (BHS '57);
the artist with his painting (center).

Details—the poster includes these nostalgic elements, some of which remain today:

Neisner's in the 12 Corners Shopping Center, 12 Middle School, the Chateau, Brighton High School in the 1950s.

This delightful painting of Brighton's 12 Corners in the mid-1950s, by Jim Christy (BHS '57), was featured at the 2008 Brighton Arts Festival at the Town Hall, is now on permanent display at the Town Hall, and is available for purchase as three different sizes of prints to benefit the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA).

Christy did the painting for his 50th class reunion, and is having a great time making it a permanent part of local lore. It depicts a number of lost landmarks, such as Howard Johnson's, Neisner's, the Belmar, Don & Bob's and the Chateau. "This painting captures a special moment in time for Brighton residents and alumni," he said. "I think they will enjoy reconnecting with their pasts when they see the painting."

Each print is signed by the artist and accompanied by a detailed legend identifying the buildings and most of the cars in the painting.

Payment must be made by check. Because the BSAA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, a portion of each purchase is tax-deductible.

The prints are 16x13 with border, $30; 23x19 with border, $40; and 30x24 with border, $50, plus $5 per order for shipping and handling. To order a print, click here for an order form or just send payment by check to the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA) c/o Jim Christy, 127 Commodore Parkway, Rochester, NY 14625. You also may order by e-mail by clicking here.

For further details, contact Christy at (586) 586-0045. For more about the artist, go to his website (jimchristy.com).

  • If you can't attend the BSAA's monthly meetings in person, you can "tune in" to webcasts - just click on the BSAA Webcasts button at the home page.

  • We've created an amazing Alumni Resource Center at the 12 Corners Elementary School building as a resource for reunion planning and a repository for historical material about Brighton schools. Click on the link above to see what's there already. If you're planning a BHS reunion, please consider holding your committee meetings in the Alumni Resource Center or dropping by to see what other reunions have involved! If you have mementos of your years at a Brighton school that you would like to donate, click on the link above for more information.
  • BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame

We've established the BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame to honor classmates who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and communities, and who value the impact of their Brighton educations on their successes. Now in its sixth year, this important program includes introduction of honorees to the student body at the BHS annual awards events; classroom visits by honorees during the day; and a recognition dinner that evening at which honorees present short videotapes about their careers and their memories of BHS. We also have added a free Symposium on the evening before the recognition events, at which honorees interact with students, teachers, faculty members and the Brighton high school community.
Nominations are open for the BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame year-round, with each year's selections made between January and February for recognition that June. For nomination criteria and forms, information about events related to the BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame, and details of the 2006-2010 honorees and events, just click here.

  • For several years, BSAA worked with the Student Council to sponsor a Coming Home Concert during the BHS Homecoming Weekend. In 2007, several BSAA members also marched in the Homecoming Parade.

  • We donated a new, state-of-the-art electronic marquee, now operational on the lawn of Brighton High School, funded primarily through reunion contributions.

  • The BSAA has recognized classmates who have died in war, by commissioning memorials for those killed in Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and Iraq, and restoring the plaques honoring alumni who died in WWII.

  • We support a variety of efforts to improve and beautify the high school, such as landscaping, replacing front doors, providing new flagpoles, cleaning the entry brass, and renovating the Winton Road entrance to the building.

  • We provide support for your reunion events and planning. Be sure to contact us when you start planning your class reunion, whether it's your first or your 50th!

All BSAA projects offer wonderful opportunities for reuniting classes to help improve and support their high-school alma mater.  Each project usually has a coordinator along with a description of the project. Completed projects also have photo sections at this website.

BSAA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization; contributions are tax-deductible under the IRS code. Donations in support of BSAA programs may be sent to BSAA, 2035 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY  14618.
