The Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA) will meet from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008, at the Alumni Resource Center in the 12 Corners Elementary School building, 2035 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY. Agenda items include final arrangements for this year's BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame recognition dinner coming up this Friday, June 6, and plans for upcoming events and activities, including the annual All-Alumni Picnic on July 24 in Ellison Park. Alumni of all Brighton schools are welcome to attend!

Congratulations to BSAA board member Maryjane K. Link, who has been elected as president of the board of directors of Voice for Adoption.

The BSAA has launched a Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for books and other college supplies for BHS graduates. For contribution information, go to the Scholarship Fund page of our website.

BSAA honored the 2007 inductees in its BHS Alumni Hall of Fame at a recognition dinner on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Oak Hill Country Club and introduced the new inductees to the BHS student body during this year's Awards Events at BHS on Friday morning, June 1. For highlights, click on the Alumni Hall of Fame button at above left.

The Brighton Schools Alumni Association was deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely death of Charlie Fischer (BHS '64), chair of the first-ever BSAA Brighton Schools Alumni Hall of Fame Committee, who died on July 4, 2006,while preparing for a local charity run. He will be greatly missed.

Almost 100 BHS alumni enjoyed a delightful evening of socializing, reminiscing and feasting at the BSAA's 3rd Annual All-Alumni Picnic, on July 27, 2006, at Hazelwood Lodge in Ellison Park. Check out photos from this and the first two picnics, and mark your calendar for Thursday, July 26, 2007, so you don't miss the fun at the next one! These all-alumni events are a great way to stay in touch and reconnect with classmates between reunions. Please pass the word to your old classmates!

For news of upcoming reunions, please go to the Reunions section of this site - several are coming up in August!

The first Brighton High School graduates to be inducted into the new Brighton Schools Alumni Hall of Fame of the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA) are:
• Jacksel Broughton (1942), a highly decorated pilot, military hero, educator and author;
• David Kearns (1948), who led Xerox into international prominence and has been an innovative role model in business and education;
• the late William Scandling (1940), an entrepreneur and philanthropist;
• Frederick Trost (1953), a renowned pastor and United Church of Christ leader at local, national and international levels; and
• Pauline Yu (1966), a leader in women's and Asian studies, and president of the American Council of Learned Societies.

Plaques honoring these outstanding BHS alumni are now on view in the lobby of BHS.

The next meeting of the BSAA will be at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of September 2006. In 2006, meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month and are held in the Alumni Resource Center at the 12 Corners Elementary School (TCES) building, 2035 Monroe Avenue. Meetings are free and all alumni are welcome.

The BSAA's new Brighton Schools Alumni Hall of Fame has been featured in the Brighton-Pittsford Post, Democrat and Chronicle, Brighton News, the district's electronic newsletter, and "Hackett's Landing," the principal's section of the Baronet. All BHS alumni in the database of the alumni website received an e-mail blast thanks to webmaster Paul Hundredmark, and we're spreading the word through personal contacts as well. If you have any questions, just send a message to HallofFame@brightonalumni.org or call use at 585-442-6055.

BSAA is working on plans to beautify an interior courtyard at BHS to create a source of relaxation and reflection. A new design calls for incorporating images of all the schools that ever were part of the Brighton Central School District. (BSAA welcomes donations from individuals, classes, garden clubs and area businesses for this exciting project.)

History was made on December 26, 2005: For the first time ever (or at least since 1973), a Brighton Barons hockey team ended up a winner! The First Annual Brighton High School Alumni Ice Hockey game brought together four decades of players, coaches and their families in a joyous celebration of Brighton High School Hockey. Adoring fans packed the house at ESL Sports Center on the Campus of MCC and cheered their favorite former Barons — older, fatter, balder, slower but still recognizable — on to victory.

The BHS class of 1985 held its 20-year reunion during Thanksgiving. Photos and details will be posted to the Reunions section of this site shortly.

Members of the BHS class of 2000 held an informal get-together on November 25, 2005, at the Otter Lodge on Monroe Avenue. Classmates interested in participating in future gatherings may contact Lauren Zwirn (BHS '00) at Zwirn2000@aol.com or (585) 305-2914.

Have you noticed the new marquee at Brighton High School? On October 18, BSAA officially presented the state-of-the-art electronic "billboard" to BCSD in a ceremony involving remarks from (below, left to right) Student Council president Maria Tatsekos, outgoing superintendent "Harv" Peris, and BSAA leaders Pete French and Pete Heinrich. Funds for the marquee came from recent reunion contributions to the BSAA. See the site's "Photos" pages for more!

Torrential rain on September 16 caused flooding at BHS and meant we had to cancel this year's Alumni Coming Home Concert, but we plan to try again next year. We'll keep you posted.

Such a wonderful time was had by all at the first annual BSAA Alumni Picnic, in 2004, that we did it again in 2005, on Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Ellison Park - Hazelwood Lodge (same park, different lodge). We'll be back for the 3rd Annual Alumni Picnic on July 27, 2006. About 100 alumni from more than a dozen graduating years showed up to enjoy hotdogs, salads, desserts and drinks provided by BSAA. Watch this space and the Photos section for photos from the 2005 picnic.

The BSAA Alumni Resource Center, housed in the Brighton Central School District offices (the former 12 Corners Elementary School building), is growing every day. New acquisitions include shelving and file cabinets to accommodate memorabilia from every decade since Brighton opened, along with carpeting, Venetian blinds, and a conference table and chairs. New photos and reunion items are on display. If you have something to contribute, need ideas for an upcoming reunion or other BHS-related event, or would like to hold a reunion-planning meeting, contact Kay Clark, (585) 271-8643, to visit the Alumni Resource Center. Ann Hodgman (BHS '74) is the co-author of the new book, You Know You're 40 When ... The March 2005 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine featured an article adapted from an excerpt from the book.

The new president of Nazareth College is BHS alumnus Daan Braveman (1965).
